Health Care Professionals Classes
Our hospital campus serves as a center for continuing education for health care professionals. Experienced, certified instructors offer a variety of courses to encourage professional development.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS and PALSand has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.
Healthcare Professional Classes
STABLE Program
- An 8 hour program designed to help health care providers organize care during the post-resuscitation/ pre-transport period.
- NRP is recommended prior to STABLE but not mandatory
- An STABLE textbook must be obtained prior to class. There isa pre-course self assessment test that must be completed prior tothe class. Bring the test completed test with you on the first day of class. There will be no admittance without thetest.
The STABLE Mnemonic
Sugar - This section covers IV therapy including fluid rates, glucose monitoring, and emergency treatment of hypoglycemia
Temperature - Special temperature needs of infants and the detrimental effects of hypothermia
Airway - Evaluation of respiratory distress, indication for intubation, assisting with intubation, and securing the endotracheal tube.
Blood Pressure - Evaluating, recognizing and treating shock.
Lab Work - Pre-transport lab evaluation, including CBC interpretation and treatment of suspected neonatal infection.
Emotional Support - Family's emotional needs and reactions during the crisis surrounding a sick infant.

Textbook: All attendees must have a textbook to complete the Pre-Test which is located in the text book. Texts may be borrowed from South Lake Hospital Education Department or purchased. Cost is $40.00.

NRP Provider Course
- This program is designed for physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and paramedics whose daily occupation demands regarding neonatal resuscitation.
- A NRP textbook must be obtained prior to class. There is a pre-course assessment test that must be completed prior to the class. Print the test completion certificate and bring to class. There will be no admittance without this certificate.
- Critical points will be discussed during the first four hours, and skills and written testing will occur during the last four hours.
Required Course Materials Textbook:
All attendees must have a textbook to complete the Pre-Test. Texts may be borrowed from South Lake Hospital Education Department or purchased. Cost is $50.00.

PALS Provider Course
- This program is designed for pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who may initiate & direct advance life support in pediatric emergencies.
- This class requires one year of pediatric experience. Basic knowledge of EKG is recommended. You must show proof of a current BLS card.
- A PALS textbook must be obtained prior to class. There is a pre-course assessment test that must be completed prior to the class. Print the test completion certificate and bring to class. There will be no admittance without this certificate.

ACLS New Provider Course
- This program is designed for emergency, intensive care,or critical care healthcare providers, such asphysicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency.
- This course is for either a new ACLS candidate, a participant needing an in-depth review or a cardholder expired for longer than 2 months.
- All classes include a BLS Healthcare Provider course.
- A ACLS textbook must be obtained prior to class. There is a pre-course assessment test that must be completed prior to the class. Print the test completion certificate and bring to class. There will be no admittance without this certificate.
