Raising awareness and promoting prevention are an important part of our continuing mission to improve the health and wellness of our community.Each year South Lake Hospital hosts a variety of special events and screenings to enhance community health and education. Be sure to check our community events regularly to stay involved.Special Community Events
Men's Health Event. Kenneth A. Essig, M.D., board certified urologist, will give a brief educational presentation. The screening will include a digital exam (DRE) and prostate specific antigen blood test (PSA).
The American Urological Association encourages all men who are in good health to have an annual prostate cancer screening starting at age 50, or at age 40 if they're in high risk groups. Please consult a physician. Please click here for flyer.

The American Cancer Society recommends that starting at age 40 all women should have an annual mammography screening. If you have yet to schedule your first mammogram, come to the Centre for Women’s Health Open House that will give you an opportunity to learn about the mammography process, ask our hospital staff questions and hear from a radiologist on the importance of taking care of yourself through preventative screenings.
October 21, 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Come visit the Centre for Women’s Health open house for women who are familiar with mammography screening but have yet to get established in our community or wish to learn about the technological advances in screening and diagnostic testing. Our staff will also be able to assist you with getting your old films transferred to the hospital. A radiologist will be available for questions and answers.

An estimated 23.6 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. Come learn how to live a healthy life while managing diabetes. South Lake Hospital will be holding a diabetes health fair that will include brief presentations by physicians and medical professionals covering diabetes basics, nutrition, diabetes foot prevention, staying fit with diabetes and self management. There will also be information booths with educational handouts, samples and experts to answer your questions on diabetes. Click here for more information.
