A number of disorders can affect the adrenal glands, including tumors, which can be either benign or malignant. Most adrenal gland tumors are benign, do not cause symptoms and may not require treatment. Malignant adrenal gland cancers are uncommon, but can be treated.
Your surgeon may use minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery to remove smaller benign tumors. During this procedure, they will make several small incisions in either your abdomen or back, depending on the tumor’s location. This method may reduce pain, scarring and recovery time. For larger malignant tumors, they may perform open surgery, which requires a longer recovery period.
