A lipid profile, also called a lipid panel, is a group of blood tests often ordered as part of a routine physical examination to diagnose many types of heart disease. It can help us determine your risk for a build-up of plaque on your blood vessel walls that can cause narrowing and blockages.
We will assess the levels of your triglycerides, total cholesterol, and your “good” (HDL) and “bad” (LDL) cholesterol levels, then develop a risk score based on your test results, age, sex and other factors. Your doctor can explain your readings, and, if necessary, develop a personalized plan to bring your levels within a normal range that may include changes in your diet and medication.
