Local cardiologists may use nuclear heart scans to check the blood flow to your heart, see how well your heart pumps blood to your body, and look for damaged heart muscle from a heart attack, injury or infection.
In this noninvasive outpatient exam, our doctors may choose from a variety of ways to take pictures, including PET, CT scans or 3D images. We inject a small, safe amount of radioactive material, or tracers, into a vein in your arm or hand to capture precise images of your heart as you lie still for an extended period. The tracers reveal details of the degree of damage in your heart, and will leave your body quickly.
