A femoral hernia develops when tissue or part of the intestine bulges into a weakness in the muscle wall near the groin. Treatment approach will depend on your condition and likely will involve outpatient surgery to repair the damage.
Your doctor may recommend one of two procedures: open repair surgery, in which they make an incision for access to your hernia, or minimally invasive laparoscopy surgery. Hernia surgeries take about one hour to perform and generally do not require an overnight stay in the hospital. In both procedures, your healthcare team will use stitches or mesh to reinforce the abdomen wall.
