There are many different kinds of lumps that can appear anywhere on the body. Most are painless and non-cancerous. However, you should contact us to discuss any lump that appears suddenly, grows in size or is painful, especially if it’s located in or near the breast.
Your doctor will diagnose your lump and may examine a tissue sample to determine whether it is cancerous. Depending on its type, they could remove the lump via a small incision. In the rare case your lump is cancer, they may refer you to a surgical oncologist. They will perform an MRI, blood tests or other scans to diagnose the type and stage of the cancer, and develop a personalized treatment plan.
