Your treatment will depend largely on whether the cancer has spread, its depth, location and your overall health.
In many cases, Merkel cell carcinoma is highly treatable. We may recommend surgery to remove the cancer, a margin of surrounding skin, and possibly nearby lymph nodes. If the tumor is small and has not spread, surgery may be the best treatment. We also may use radiation to destroy any remaining cancer cells and chemotherapy if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body or returned after treatment.
