Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas caused when digestive enzymes begin to digest the pancreas itself. Your surgeon can perform a variety of procedures to treat your pancreatitis.
Your doctor's approach will depend on the underlying cause of your pancreatitis. They may remove part of the pancreas or the calcium deposits (stones) that are blocking digestive fluids. In some cases, they may remove the entire pancreas, the gallbladder or the opening of the bile ducts, depending on your condition. The goal will be to prevent a recurrence and preserve as much of your organs as possible.
