Pacemakers can regulate heartbeats, correct your heart's electrical system, restore blood flow, and treat congestive heart failure, heart attacks and other disorders with little pain. The goal is to help you resume a more active lifestyle and relieve symptoms that may include fatigue and fainting.
Your cardiologist may recommend a variety of diagnostic and monitoring tests to determine if a pacemaker may be effective and what type of device is best for you. They may insert a pacemaker through a small incision under your collarbone and connect wires, or electrodes, to your heart, which regulate and monitor your activity. They may suggest an overnight stay to ensure proper function; recovery time is normally just a few days.
