Clermont, Fla. — South Lake Hospital can expect to have another color on campus this month — purple. In an effort to save lives from cancer, employees who choose to become involved in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® will join others across the nation to raise awareness and encourage others to become involved in Relay by painting the campus purple.
“Every one of us has been touched by cancer in some way. That is why we’re painting our campus purple by spreading information and hosting events throughout the month of April to remind everyone that we all have the opportunity to fight back against this disease,” said Paul Johns, COO of South Lake Hospital. “I hope our entire campus and community will come together to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life by attending our Paint the Campus Purple activities and joining us at Relay.”
As part of the “paint the campus purple” efforts, the hospital will host a luminary ceremony on Wednesday, April 17, at 8:00 p.m., near the outdoor labyrinth and therapeutic garden. This ceremony will be a small replica of the luminary ceremony held at each Relay event that honors those have survived cancer, are currently fighting and have lost their lives to the disease.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people across the country, including thousands of college students, each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much. This year’s event at South Lake High School will be held on April 26 - 27, 2013, starting at 6 p.m. at South Lake High School. At Relay, teams of people will camp out and take turns walking or running around the South Lake High School track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event because cancer never sleeps. Funds raised through the event help the American Cancer Society saves lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
