  • New Dedicated Education Unit Provides Lake County Nursing Students with Unique One-on-One Learning Opportunity

    Clermont, FL (November 1, 2022) – Orlando Health South Lake Hospital and Lake-Sumter State College have partnered together to develop a teaching-learning model that welcomes student nurses to a dedicated medical unit located on the hospital’s campus for their entire clinical rotation. The dedicated education unit will pair students one-on-one with Orlando Health South Lake registered nurses who will serve as clinical instructors and mentors while also helping students develop partnerships needed for a successful nursing career. The first class to participate in the program started earlier this month.

    Orlando, FL (July 16, 2024) – U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital as 2024-2025 High Performing hospitals on a national level in six categories:

  • South Lake Hospital 'Paints the Campus Purple'

    South Lake Hospital paints the campus purple to spread cancer awareness.

  • Solis/Bravo concert, CD release to benefit free mammograms for local women

    Through the generosity of the South Lake County community, funds are available to cover the cost of a mammogram screening.

  • Jon M Wesley, MD

    Jon M. Wesley, M.D., F.A.C.S. completed his general surgery residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. with two years dedicated to intensive research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr.Wesley went on to complete specialty training in vascular surgery at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, WI. He subsequently held a faculty position at the University of Wisconsin before joining Vascular Specialists of Central Florida.

  • Mark Arthur Vollenweider, MD

    Mark Vollenweider, MD is a board-certified interventional pulmonologist with the Rod Taylor Thoracic Care Center at Orlando Health Cancer Institute, where he also is part of the lung cancer and lung nodule screening program. As a leader in interventional pulmonology, Dr. Vollenweider is skilled at treating patients with conditions ranging from cancer to lung nodules and at using a variety of minimally invasive procedures and diagnostic techniques. He is expertly trained on both the Ion and robotic bronchoscopy platforms that help diagnose and treat lung issues for optimal results. These advanced robotic systems support earlier detection of lung cancer by more easily accessing the disease location and more accurately determining lesion size.

  • Craig E. Fleishman, MD

    Dr. Craig Fleishman is a board-certified cardiologist and co-director of Orlando Health Children's Heart Institute. He also serves as director of non-invasive cardiac imaging. He is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology.
