In 1938, the only place to care for the sick in Clermont consisted of one room over City Hall. A group of young women from the community joined together to form the Clermont Welfare League, who saw a great need for a hospital in the community. By April 1947, an official hospital board was established and South Lake Memorial Hospital opened. Since the beginning, South Lake has continued to expand services and provide healthcare close to home.
