• AARP Drivers Safety Program

    The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers age 50 and older that has helped millions of drivers remain safe on today's roads. The course is designed to help you: 

    • Tune up your driving skills and update your knowledge of the rules of the road
    • Learn about normal age-related physical changes, and how to adjust your driving to allow for these changes
    • Reduce your traffic violations, crashes, and chances for injuries
    • Qualify for an auto insurance premium reduction or discount. Specific state insurance laws vary please consult your insurance agent for specifics in your state
    • AARP members receive discounts on many insurance companies 
    • A 6 hour class

    Advanced issues in breastfeeding taught including maintaining breastmilk supply, pumping and returning to work, and incorporating solid foods while continuing to breastfeed.

  • Childbirth Education Class

    This one day class in prepared childbirth will prepare you for labor, delivery and postpartum. You will learn all about the process of labor, relaxation and breathing techniques, pain medications, cesarean birth, and how to care for yourself after your baby arrives.  A tour of the South Lake Hospital Centre for Women's Health is included.

  • CPR

    CPR / BLS Healthcare Provider Class

    South Lake Hospital provides certified training in basic life saving techniques for adults, children and infants.  We also offer CPR renewals that follow the American Heart Association Basic Life Support guidelines.

    Cost:

    $40 (cost waived for South Lake Hospital team members)

    Required Course Materials:

    A textbook is required.  They are available to purchase or borrow from the Community Relations Department Cost is $15.

  • Eating Well with Diabetes

    Led by a registered dietitian, this free community class will teach diabetics and pre-diabetics proper nutrition and tips on eating well.

  • First Aid Class

    The American Heart Association First Aid course is specially designed to train anyone who might be the first to respond in an emergency. The First Aid Course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel.

  • Outpatient Breastfeeding Consultations

    Prenatal breastfeeding consultations and postnatal breastfeeding consultations are available and may be covered by your insurance provider.  Services provided by board certified lactation consultants. 

    Private, 90-minute consultations are available for those that need additional breastfeeding support beyond the free breastfeeding phone line after leaving the hospital.  


    Cost 

    $90, South Lake Hospital mothers, $35 follow up (if needed)

    $100, community mothers, $40 follow up (if needed)

  • Safe Sitter

    Safe Sitter® teaches adolescent babysitters how to handle crises and how to nurture and guide young child. Safe Sitter® babysitters help children stay safe and sound while their parents are away. In the process, these 11 to 13-year-olds emerge as more confident, responsible and compassionate teens and adults.

    Graduation Ceremony is on Day 2 at 4:00 pm.

    Smoking Cessation

    Like most smokers, you probably have many different feelings about smoking. You’ve heard all the reasons why you should quit.  And by joining this program, you’ve indicated that you’re willing to change-ready to quit. How does change happen? Like most people, you’ll go through a series of stages. You might even experience certain stages more than once. That’s okay.  The Smoking Cessation program is built to help you pass through the stages and learn from any setbacks so you can keep moving ahead.
