South Lake Hospital’s campus is fully equipped and prepared to handle major or minor emergencies that occur in our community.  We provide 24-hour emergency service, including emergency air care. Recent construction more than doubled the size of our emergency facilities.  With 30 treatment rooms, negative air flow rooms, diagnostic imaging, and fast track care for less serious emergencies, our team is committed to taking care of your medical emergency quickly, safely and compassionately.

Laboratory

South Lake Hospital’s clinical laboratory is a full service laboratory accredited by the College of American Pathologists.  We offer an outpatient laboratory, located at the Outpatient Entrance.  Registration for outpatient laboratory services is available through the Patient Business department on the first floor of the hospital at the Outpatient Entrance, Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.  No appointment is necessary.  The clinical laboratory is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency, routine inpatient and inpatient testing.  If you need to have testing done outside of our normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 6 p.m.), please register in the Emergency Department.

Diagnostic and therapeutic laboratory services include routine clinical chemistry, hematology and coagulation, immunohematology, serology, routine urinalysis, transfusion services, anatomic pathology and therapeutic drug monitoring.

Case Management

South Lake Hospital’s case managers work with physicians, nurses, dietitians, physical therapists and others involved in your stay to coordinate services when you are ready to be discharged.  Services offered at discharged may include referrals for:

• South Lake Home Health and other
   home health services
• Skilled nursing facilities
• IV therapy
• Home medical equipment
• Acute rehabilitation facilities
• Hospice and palliative care resources
• Other community resources

Our goal at South Lake Hospital is to provide the best quality care that maintains the comfort and quality of life of our patients.  The extensive home health services we provide empower our patients to live independently while recovering from illness or injury.

The South Lake Hospital team of home health professionals is specially trained to provide friendly, caring medical service as you recover in your own home.  Our staff will help evaluate each situation and work with you, your doctor and loved ones to create a personal healthcare plan to best suit your individual needs.

The Spiritual Care Department offers spiritual and emotional support to people of diverse backgrounds.  Our caregivers are here for support during times of need or to celebrate moments of growth and renewal.  We are available for patients and loved ones who are in need of comfort, relaxation, spiritual growth or personal reflection.

Additional touches reach beyond spiritual comforts to relax the mind and body.  Our harpist brings relaxing therapeutic music to our campus and patients’ bedsides.  Pet therapy and guided imagery services promote relaxation and an overall enhanced sense of well-being.

The Therapeutic Garden and Labyrinth located on our campus offers a helpful tool for quiet meditation, prayer or relaxation.  Labyrinths’ physical and symbolic paths have served centers for prayer and meditation by different faiths and cultures for thousands of years.  The labyrinth at South Lake Hospital is a replica of the one at Chartres Cathedral in France.

Surgical Services

When you need surgery, whether as an inpatient or an outpatient, trust South Lake Hospital’s exceptional care.  Our team of physicians, anesthesiologists and dedicated nursing professionals provide compassionate, specialized care.

Our team takes care of patients in need of a variety of procedures, including but not limited to: general surgery, ear/nose/throat, gynecology, vascular, orthopedic, eye, endoscopy, urology and same day services.

Hospitalist Service

Our Hospitalist Service assists with coordinating, communicating and improving your care while in the hospital.

What is a Hospitalist?
The Hospitalist is an acute-care physician who focuses on a patient’s hospital care from time of admission until their discharge. They specialize in caring for patients while they are in the hospital. They do not have an outside practice and are on site seven days a week to provide you with ongoing and immediate care. Hospitalists work as partners with your physician to provide you with the highest standard of care during your hospital stay. Hospitalist patients benefit from coordinated, timely and efficient service.

How does the Hospitalist program work? How does the
Hospitalist know about me?
The Hospitalist program supports your primary care physician by allowing him or her to focus on seeing patients in their office. Hospitalists are immediately available and are in contact with your primary care physicians at admission, during your hospitalization, and upon discharge.

When the decision is made to admit you to South Lake Hospital, your primary care physician may request a hospitalist care for you. Your doctor will contact one of the Hospitalists, who will then admit you to the hospital and begin your care. You may be seen by more than one physician during your hospitalization, however, your care will continue to be well coordinated and seamless.

Your Hospitalist will provide a detailed report on your hospitalization to your physician after your discharge. Your physician will then resume responsibility for your care.

Why is a Hospitalist program beneficial to me?
There are many benefits of receiving care from our team of Hospitalists. Having a Hospitalist on staff is like having your family doctor just down the hall from your room at South Lake Hospital. They are on site and available for consultation when you need them.  A Hospitalist can see you more than once a day if needed and can quickly follow up on tests and adjust your treatment regimen as needed throughout the day. With a physician in the hospital, it is easier for you and your family to ask questions and communicate about your treatment.
